With a middle face lift, the areas which can be improved in their appearance include below the lower eyelid, the jowl, and all around the mouth.

Why consider middle face-lifting surgery?

The aging process affects us all in different ways, and it can also affect how our face shows the signs of aging. For many of us, in the early stages can be drooping of the area immediately below the eyes, lines around the mouth and slackening of the skin around the jowl. However, the skin around the neck and immediately below the chin, and the skin across your forehead may not need tightening up, so there is little point in going for a full facelift.

Nobody can put off the aging process, but we can still look our best as we get older. With a middle face lift you can subtly, yet still noticeably bring a more youthful look to your face, and once you have enjoyed the results, you can consider your options for further facial cosmetic surgery a few years later.

What is involved with middle face cosmetic surgery?

The chosen procedure will be performed under general anaesthetic. The majority of ‘lifting’ surgery involves the removal of loose and excess skin and the tightening up of remaining areas which is a natural outcome when the gap where removed skin has been created. Where the areas around and including the upper and lower eyelids, surgery to improve the appearance is referred to as blepheroplasty, and once again involves the removal of areas of skin to enable tightening up of areas where sagging has taken place.

In addition to skin removal, it can also be possible to inject adipose fat into areas of the face to create a fuller look, reducing the appearance of gauntness that can accompany the aging process.

The procedure will involve an overnight stay in hospital.

Middle face lift surgery as part of a multiple cosmetic procedure

More and more often we perform cosmetic lifting surgery as part of a multiple cosmetic procedure. This type of surgery can be performed alongside rhinoplasty or otoplasty, as examples.

For the majority ofmiddle face lift procedures, this is considered as a mild medical procedure and other than taking prescribed antibiotics to help avoid post-operative infection, the natural healing process occurs over the passage of time, and after approximately two to three weeks, the majority of post-operative swelling should have disappeared. If the surgery requires traditional as opposed to dissolving stitches, these will usually be removed 5 to 7 days after the procedure.
